Adelaide artist Alison Laycock has been commissioned by
Hickinbotham to design a large-scale public artwork for
the exciting new Barossa Estate at Nuriootpa.
From a field of eight sculptural concepts, the
Hickinbotham design team settled on two of Mrs Laycock’s
proposed artworks and now wants local community feedback
as to the preferred sculpture planned for the estate’s
Research Road entrance.
Mrs Laycock is part of a
design team including planners, architects and designers
who have collaborated to create an estate that is in
sympathy with the heritage and natural environment of
the Barossa.
“The estate has a distinct
sense of place and history and the public artwork is an
important part of that vision,” said Mrs Laycock.
The brief was for an artwork
with visual impact using natural materials with an
organic quality and features a thought provoking design
that refers to the Barossa, especially its winemaking
history.
“I based the proposed sculpture designs on the idea of
a living landscape = people + nature + time.”
The sculptural choices are
:-
-
This design forms a
sculptural support for vines to grow on, so that the
appearance will change dramatically with seasonal
change.
-
This artwork features
sculptural elements and text that refer to the history
of the land use, ownership and settlement, with
central piece functioning as a weathervane.
You decide on the preferred option.
