In a bid to address the growing
demand for housing in the Barossa, but not at the
expense of the region's heritage and unique character,
Hickinbotham developed Barossa Estate on the banks of
the North Para River off Research Road.
"We invited leading planners,
architects, designers and an artist to collaborate in
creating an estate that captures the essence of the
Barossa", said Hickinbotham Managing Director Michael
Hickinbotham. "Our design team set out to
understand what made the region so special and mapped
townships, streetscapes, styles of homes, colour
palettes and landscaping."
The architect-designed homes being
built on the last major residential land release in the
Barossa incorporate traditional and contemporary styles.
"Harmony is archived through design features like wide
eaves, elevated roof pitches, the use of materials like
timber and solid stone and colour palettes that blend."

Under an innovative pre-approved
home program, on some allotments Hickinbotham has chosen
a home design that is perfectly suited to a particular
site and then arranged council approval. Home
buyers can then sign a contract on the pre-approved
site, reducing wait time by up to 6 months. The
company currently has a number of sites approved and
under construction, and has plans to roll out the
initiative through the entire project.
"It makes home building a more
attractive option, as it evens out the time difference
between building and buying established."
"The building industry must come
up with innovative ways to deliver finished homes
faster, and this approach pioneered by Hickinbotham is a
logical solution", said Mr Hickinbotham.
Clients can also choose any of
Hickinbotham's 100 designs (the largest range of homes
in South Australia) to be built on the allotment of
their choice.

The estate features majestic
100-year-old gums along the beautiful North Para River
and is adjoined by farmland. Public artwork is
planned and there is a reserve that links to the Linear
Park and Barossa Bushgardens. Vineyards have been
incorporated as a mark of respect to the Barossa's
position as Australia's most famous wine region.
